LAGO's Twin Otter

A mini-review by John Zumsteg

Here's a quickie review, after only 30 minutes or so, of Lago's just released DeHavilland Twin Otter.....

General comments.........

First, you've gotta have some CPU horsepower. Lago may have only gotten me for $20, but the motherboard upgrade is going make this the most expensive plane I've ever purchased. I've got a P3 1ghz and I'm getting about 7-8 fps with this airplane and Eddie Denny's 38m scenery when flying around Seattle.

Cockpit and panels..........

The reason for the fps hit is the cockpit is just totally cool. In either cockpit view, it's about as realistic as you could expect. With the Virtual Cockpit in place, you can press Shift-n, where n is 1 through 8, to bring up a window with the main cockpit, the throttle quadrant, the radios, the autopilot, etc. So you can fly in Virtual Cockpit and have instant access to the things you need to change. Changes you make in a window are immediately reflected in the Virtual Cockpit.

Flight Model.......

I've never flown one of these classics, though I've flown in them. The plane seems to fly well and realistically, though going to full flaps caused things to go awry, but that's probably my inexperience with the plane. Other than that, the Twotter seems stable and realistic -- great fun, actually.

That's all I can say after 30 minutes, except that I have little doubt I'll get my money's worth from this plane. I like what Lago is turning out; I haven't been disappointed by anything I've bought from them.
